Nichole Kain ’24 (New England, PhD) attended the National Adaptation Forum in St. Paul, Minnesota. The National Adaptation Forum is a biennial convening for adaptation professionals to innovate, network, and focus on established and emerging climate adaptation issues.

Kain presented her work, Aging in Place with Extreme Heat: A Residential Checklist. The project’s purpose is to promote a better understanding of how our homes help or hurt us as we age in places with extreme heat. In addition to presenting her research, she co-moderated a special session titled “Community-Led Adaptation Innovations and Policy Recommendations.” Kain also hosted a table at the event speaking with many about Antioch University’s degree programs.

Kain has a background in occupational therapy, environmental gerontology, and home modifications for healthy aging. She is interested in regional and residential climate adaptation strategies for medically vulnerable populations. She holds an MA in Gerontology from San Francisco State University and a BSc in Occupational Therapy from Florida Gulf Coast University.
