LaToya Jordan Wins 2023 Shirley Jackson Award for Debut Novella

LaToya Jordan ’09 (Los Angeles, MFA) won the 2023 Shirley Jackson Award for her debut novella To the Woman in the Pink Hat (Aqueduct Press). The Shirley Jackson Awards were established “for outstanding achievement in the literature of psychological suspense, horror, and the dark fantastic” and voted upon by a jury of professional writers, editors, critics, and academics. 

According to the publisher, “Jordan’s novella is a gripping and terrifying look at our reproductive future that sends shudders through our reproductive present.”

Jordan’s writing has appeared in AnomalyLiterary MamaMom Egg ReviewRaising MothersPoets & WritersThe Rumpus, and more. Her flash fiction story Offering was chosen as a spotlight story in Best Small Fictions 2021 (Sonder Press) and named Wigleaf’s Top 50 2021. She is also the author of Thick-Skinned Sugar (Finishing Line Press), a poetry chapbook.
