
Elana Haviv ‘08, ‘23 (Midwest, MA; GSLC, PhD) has been appointed a visiting scholar at the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights (CGHR) at Rutgers University. In this new role, she will contribute to interdisciplinary research, collaborate on projects focused on atrocity prevention and transitional justice, and engage in public education in support of CGHR’s mission to prevent genocide and promote human rights.
Haviv is the founder and executive director of Generation Human Rights, a nonprofit organization that empowers youth to envision and build a world free of human rights abuses and genocide through classroom-based and experiential education. Her groundbreaking work has brought human rights education into schools across the U.S. and Europe, as well as refugee camps and humanitarian crisis zones around the world.
As an independent consultant, she has developed anti-Semitism education materials for OSCE/ODIHR and authored four UNESCO guides that provide educators with practical tools for leading classroom conversations on violent extremism. She currently serves as co-chair of Human Rights Educators USA.
Haviv holds an MA in Historiography in Education from Antioch University McGregor, and both an MA and PhD in Leadership and Change from Antioch University. Her appointment at Rutgers marks a significant step in her ongoing efforts to advance global human rights education and advocacy.
