One Good Point…with Dr. Jon Wergin

The way in which people process information these days, through social media, in particular, it leads to what I call “Drive-by Learning.” Where the temptation is to only take in small snippets of information at a time; process that in such a way that people immediately either attach to what they already think is true or they discard because it doesn’t fit their worldview.

Deep learning, on the other hand, is not being a prisoner to your own mental models; the way in which you see the world is the only way to see the world, but rather it’s a constant process of taking in information, thinking about it critically, putting yourself in the position of wondering whether this suggests another way of looking at things and inviting yourself to try on these other perspectives.  Understanding that your understanding of the world. In fact, everybody’s understanding of the world is only temporary and subject to change.
