Lynn M. Horan ’24 (GSLC, PhD) is a contributing author to Inspirational Women Leaders: The Challenges and Rewards of Religion, Spirituality, Purpose, and Calling, part of the International Leadership Association’s Transformative Women Leaders Book Series.

Horan’s contribution builds on her research into women’s leadership, workplace culture, and the challenges faced by empathetic women leaders. Her work explores the embodied process through which women can reconstitute their sense of self and reclaim leadership strengths after experiencing toxic workplace cultures.

The publication adds to Horan’s growing body of scholarship focused on gender and leadership. Her recent work includes the article “Exploiting Empathetic Women Leaders and the Shadow Side of Servant-Leadership,” published in the Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion, as well as the book Dismantled: Abusive Church Culture and the Clergy Women Who Leave, which grew out of her dissertation research on the experiences of Gen-X and Millennial Protestant clergy women.

Horan’s scholarship examines how gendered expectations, organizational culture, and traditional leadership models can affect women leaders, while exploring approaches to leadership that foster greater psychological safety and authenticity.
