Building Community Through Art

In February and March, Environmental Studies student and Antioch Student Affairs Coordinator Daniel Andrews partnered with two local organizations to share his collaborative art practice, fostering creativity and reflection within the community.

Andrews led a Paint Collaborative at the Keene Senior Center, where seven to 10 participants painted on three shared canvases. Guided by the prompt, “What does community look and feel like?” they expressed connection, belonging, and shared experience. The resulting artworks are now displayed at the Senior Center. One participant described the event as “an amazing social experiment.”

He also facilitated a three-day series for the Keene Community Education ESL program, engaging learners at all levels. With interpreter support, participants explored the meaning of community both broadly and within their experiences at Keene Community Education. Reflecting on the project, Director Heather Jasmine shared, “Students all had a wonderful time, and the staff was so happy to be able to offer this project. Between the news and the weather, this week was a little extra. Daniel’s soothing demeanor and fun project were exactly what everyone needed to lift their spirits.”
