Three New Antioch Leaders Bring Experience and Excitement

Vice President for Academic Affairs and University Provost

Sandra Madar

As Antioch University’s senior academic officer, Sandra (Sandy) Madar, leads academic efforts across all Antioch campuses and schools. Engaged teaching and learning are her focus. Before joining Antioch, she was the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Mount Union, OH, where she oversaw undergraduate programs, faculty, and interdisciplinary initiatives. Madar’s experience combines her own experience as a professor, scholar, and researcher with her approach to academic excellence, equity, shared governance, and learner-centered education. 

“Over these past months at Antioch, I’ve been inspired by the dedication of our faculty, staff, administrators, and students, and by the University’s deep commitment to education in service of the common good,” says Madar.

“I’m excited to continue strengthening academic programs, expanding access for learners with complex lives, and advancing collaborative leadership across all campuses and schools.” 


Thomas Hoener

Thomas Hoener

Thomas (Tom) Hoener is a first- generation college graduate and has a deep understanding of adult learners and their educational journeys. His own experience earning his bachelor’s degree through a weekend program fits well with Antioch’s values of access, flexibility, and social justice. Prior to joining Antioch, Hoener was at California Lutheran University, where he brought together graduate and adult enrollment teams into a collaborative, data-driven approach that led to strong enrollment growth. His work at Antioch will focus on improving enrollment and marketing strategies, always holding Antioch’s mission at the center of his efforts.

“Since joining Antioch, I’ve seen how strongly the University’s mission resonates with students seeking meaningful, flexible, and transformative educational experiences,” says Hoener.

Greg Malone

Chief Information Officer

Greg Malone

Greg Malone brings more than 25 years of higher education experience, with a career spanning technology leadership, organizational transformation, and strategic innovation. Before joining Antioch, he served as Chief Information Officer at Belmont Abbey College and Global Chief Information Officer at Webster University. In these roles, Malone led enterprise modernization initiatives, advanced global technology strategy, established governance, cybersecurity, and AI programs, and built high-performing teams. Earlier in his career, he held executive leadership positions within Fortune 50 and Fortune 500 companies, leading technology operations and digital transformation efforts.

“What drew me most to Antioch is its unwavering commitment to equity, social responsibility, and transformative education,” says Malone.

“My vision is to advance Antioch’s mission by positioning technology as a strategic enabler that fosters innovation, strengthens collaboration, and enhances the experience of every student, faculty, and staff member.”
