Amanda Suzzi-Simmons, Core Faculty in Environmental Studies and Sustainability and Director of the Spatial Analysis Lab at Antioch University’s New England campus, had research cited in NASA’s Image of the Day for January 19, 2025.

Suzzi-Simmons’ article, Status of Deforestation of Madagascar, in the Journal of Global Ecology and Conservation, examines deforestation in Madagascar over the past 20 years. NASA quotes the research, stating: “One major consequence of the population growth is that the natural forest is now being lost at one of the fastest rates in the world.”
Suzzi-Simmons is a geospatial scientist whose research delves into the heart of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine coastal habitats, utilizing a dynamic combination of in situ and satellite remote sensing techniques. She focuses on the spatial choreography of ecosystems, recognizing the interconnectedness that transcends political and cultural boundaries.
