Professional Development Needs in Educational Support for the Waldorf Teacher | Dissertation Watch

Leah Mrozinski, EdD, is a 2025 graduate of the EdD program in Educational and Professional Practice at Antioch University. She has published her dissertation entitled, Professional Development Needs in Educational Support for the Waldorf Teacher.

Over the past few years, through both her work and academic studies, Dr. Mrozinski has become deeply immersed in the world of Waldorf education. During this time, she recognized a significant gap in foundational special education knowledge among Waldorf educators. Her research sought to answer the question: What topics of educational support are most relevant and needed for Waldorf teachers and trainees today?

Her literature review examined best practices in special education, key principles of Waldorf education, and relevant insights from polyvagal theory. Topics included a basic overview of special education law, effective strategies for supporting students with learning differences, how Waldorf methods serve dysregulated learners, and an exploration of Anthroposophy’s core tenets as they relate to educational support.

Using an action research framework, Mrozinski conducted teacher questionnaires to identify areas where Waldorf educators need additional training in working with learning differences. She then employed an explanatory mixed-methods approach, incorporating expert interviews to deepen understanding of the findings. Her work contributes a much-needed pathway for addressing ableism in Waldorf classrooms and promoting greater equity in access to this educational model.

Mrozinski is currently an Educational Support Administrator. She brings over a decade of teaching experience, including work with parents of English language learners and homeschoolers. She has extensive expertise supporting neurodivergent students and those with learning disabilities.
