Harriet Schwartz ’09 (GSLC, PhD) Professor of Relational Practice and Higher Education in the Graduate School of Leadership and Change, and Elizabeth L. Holloway, PhD, Professor Emeritus,  have co-authored the book Essentials of Constructivist Critical Incident Technique.

Published by the American Psychological Association, it is the first book on Critical Incident Technique (CIT), a method developed in the 1950s. The book is part of the Essentials of Qualitative Methods Series, in which the authors introduce Constructivist CIT in relation to its well-established parent method Critical Incident Technique, which has been used widely in the social sciences, healthcare, and business. Constructivist CIT is an accessible method for novice researchers as well as seasoned scholars expanding their qualitative repertoire to ensure the trustworthiness of a study’s design, collect and analyze data, and write up and submit a study for publication.
