Chuck Powell ’14 (GSLC, PhD) had his novel, Unicursal: Redemption in the Age of Nuclear Annihilation, published by Subplot Publishing on July 14, 2026. Set across two timelines, the speculative novel confronts nuclear war, climate disaster, artificial intelligence, authoritarianism, and the possibility that personal transformation and collective action can change humanity’s course.
The novel revisits concerns that have long shaped Powell’s scholarship and advocacy. His Antioch dissertation, Addressing Global Threat: Exploring the Relationship between Common Purpose and Leadership, used nuclear-weapons reduction as a setting for examining how shared purpose and leadership can reinforce one another in response to urgent and complex global challenges.
Powell is an author, leadership coach, teacher, and advocate for reducing nuclear weapons. A former U.S. Air Force missile launch officer and retired healthcare executive, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Daisy Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing awareness of the dangers posed by nuclear weapons.
