Antioch University Advances Commitment to Veterans and Military-Connected Learners

Antioch University’s Veterans and Military-Connected Strategic Vision Committee, composed of faculty and staff from the University’s Management, Leadership, and Change programs, has completed the first phase of a major initiative to strengthen support for veteran and military-connected students.

Established to explore and recommend ways to more effectively serve this student population, the committee took a comprehensive, student-centered approach. Its work integrated direct outreach, faculty development, institutional partnerships, and structured listening sessions—each designed to deepen understanding of the experiences and needs of veterans and military-connected learners.

Drawing on insights from students and alumni, including active-duty service members, veterans, individuals working in military-connected and civilian roles, and family members of service personnel, the committee identified several key areas of recommendation:

  • Comprehensive Benefits Navigation and Financial Support
  • Flexible and Accessible Program Design
  • Veteran-Centered Identity and Transition Support
  • Cohort-Based Community and Mentorship
  • Transparent, Veteran- and Military-Friendly Marketing and Recruitment
  • Integrated Career and Academic Pathways

All participants were affiliated with programs now housed within Antioch’s School of Interdisciplinary and Professional Studies (SIPS), reflecting the University’s cross-disciplinary commitment to inclusion and innovation in adult learning.

“This work underscores Antioch’s deep respect for the leadership, experience, and insight that veterans and military-connected individuals bring to our learning communities,” said Amy Rutstein-Riley, dean of Antioch University’s School of Interdisciplinary and Professional Studies. “We are committed to cultivating educational environments that honor their service and support their success.”

The committee’s findings will inform the next phase of Antioch University’s Veterans and Military-Connected Strategic Vision, which will focus on implementation, collaboration, and expanded student-centered support across campuses and programs.
