Paul Belz ’94 (New England, MS) released two books in 2023. He is a widely published writer, with his poetry and prose appearing in a range of magazines and anthologies.
The Association for Northern California Historical Research published his most recent book, Bidwell Park: Personal Reflections and Casual Conversations About Chico’s Crown Jewel, in December of 20203.The book describes the human and natural history of Chico, California’s 3600+ acre open space and its many controversies, including some that continue today. Sometimes the Soul Needs Chocolate: Pandemic Odes, was published by Vanguard Paperbacks/ Pegasus Press in September 2023. It is a chapbook of poems from the hardest days of the Covid pandemic. Belz has also presented natural history and science workshops for preschool and elementary school children for decades and has led a number of teacher training workshops.
