RCT@AU to Hold Free Online Event Around Relationships in Social Change

On October 28, Antioch University, in partnership with The International Center for Growth and Connection, will hold a ninety-minute online panel discussion titled “Nobody Does this Work Alone: The Role of Relationships in Advocating for Social Change.” This program, featuring award-winning author Elaine Weiss, is designed for educators, mental health practitioners, and advocates of leadership and change. It is free for all registrants, with a $20 fee for those who wish to receive Continuing Education credit.

Weiss is the author of the book Spell Freedom: The Underground Schools That Built the Civil Rights Movement, which uncovers the little-known story of grassroots schools that advanced equality and justice. Weiss will be joined in conversation by Antioch University faculty members Kimberly Hardy, EdD, Cathy Lounsbury, EdD, LCPC, and Fayth Parks, PhD, who bring expertise in education, mental health, and community advocacy.

Together, the panel will explore how lessons from the Civil Rights Movement can inform today’s efforts to create inclusive classrooms, strengthen mental health practice, and advance social justice through relationship-centered, grassroots approaches. Participants will gain practical strategies for healing, empowerment, and connecting individual and community wellbeing within relational and advocacy-based frameworks.

The program also offers opportunities for continuing education for mental health practitioners and K-12 educators, underscoring Antioch’s commitment to providing learning that supports both professional growth and social transformation. Timing and registration information can be found at this link.

This event is part of Antioch University’s Relational Cultural Theory at Antioch University (RCT@AU) initiative and is supported by the Coalition for the Common Good.
