Terry Wolverton Publishes Season of Eclipse

Blue and purple Season of Eclipse book jacket by Terry Wolverton.

Terry Wolverton, a long-time faculty in Antioch’s MFA in Creative Writing program, recently published Season of Eclipse (Bella Books).

The thriller, set after a chance encounter with terrorism at JFK, leaves celebrated novelist Marielle thrust into the Witness Protection program and stripped of her vibrant life and identity. With only her cat for company, Marielle plans her comeback with a sensational novel, until she discovers a fraudulent “posthumous” book bearing her name. Breaking cover, Marielle embarks on a perilous quest for truth, enlisting the aid of an eclectic crew including a young musician, Buddhist monks, and her stalwart ex-lover, Fresh. Against all odds, Marielle is determined to reclaim her name and her life in this thrilling story of courage, identity, and resilience.

“I grew up in Detroit, so the geography and the cultural vibe are baked into me,” said Wolverton. “Detroit fascinates me, its near collapse in the 1990s and 2000s and the multiple visions for its resurrection. There’s a feistiness and inventiveness to the city I still admire. I see a parallel between Detroit and Marielle’s story—losing everything, having to figure out what’s worth preserving, and fighting to come back re-formed.”

Wolverton’s career is multifaceted, encompassing roles as a literary artist, author, editor, creative writing instructor, consultant, and Kundalini Yoga/Meditation teacher. Her fiction, poetry, essays, and drama have been published in periodicals internationally, including Crab Orchard Review, Prairie Schooner, Glimmer Train Stories, The Stinging Fly, and Zyzzyva, and widely anthologized. She has also edited several successful literary compilations, including the Lambda Literary Award-winning His: Brilliant New Fiction by Gay Men and Hers: Brilliant New Fiction by Lesbians, Volumes 1, 2, and 3. Wolverton recently co-edited a posthumous collection of works by Gil Cuadros, My Body is Paper, forthcoming in June 2024.
