Roselind Amaker, a PhD student in the Couples and Family Therapy program, was featured as the October 2025 HDFS Alumni Spotlight by the University of Connecticut’s Department of Human Development and Family Sciences. The article highlights her journey as a first-generation academic and her commitment to advancing mental health support for individuals, families, and communities. She earned her HDFS BA with a minor in Women’s Studies, and later completed an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University.
With more than 18 years of experience in the mental health field, including seven years as a mental health sergeant in the U.S. Army, Amaker’s work centers on helping people navigate healing and transition. Her research focuses on the reintegration of military service members into their families and communities, and she is also recognized for her advocacy around racial equity and cultural inclusion.
The spotlight also notes her strengths as a bilingual therapist serving clients across diverse backgrounds and life stages.
