Ana Guadalupe Reyes, Core Faculty in the MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs at Antioch University’s New England and Seattle campuses, received two distinguished awards at the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) National Conference, held from October 8 through 12 in Philadelphia, PA.
Reyes was honored by the ACES Qualitative Interest Network (CEQUIN) with Qualitative Journal Article of the Year and Qualitative Research Mentor of the Year—recognitions that highlight Reyes’s outstanding scholarship, mentorship, and advocacy for qualitative inquiry in counselor education.
CEQUIN cultivates a supportive, educational community for counselor educators and supervisors engaged in qualitative research. Its mission is to foster an open, collegial, and reciprocal environment where qualitative researchers can thrive.
Reyes’s work exemplifies this mission. A socially just qualitative researcher, Reyes centers action-oriented, liberatory, and anti-oppressive approaches. Their research integrates principles of participatory action research (PAR) and focuses on resilience, resistance, and healing within marginalized communities. Areas of interest include the lived experiences and mental health needs of queer and [un]documented Latinx/Latine communities, Indigenous healing practices, and the development of bilingual, culturally conscious counselors.
Beyond published scholarship, Reyes is a gifted mentor who partners with students and communities to co-create research that is democratic, equitable, and life-affirming. Their dedication to advancing qualitative research and guiding emerging scholars reflects the spirit of CEQUIN’s mission.
