Desiree Kannel’s ’08 (Los Angeles, MFA in Creative Writing) novel Lucky John was published June 2020 by Black Rose Writing and was named a finalist in African American Fiction from the 2021 Next Generation Indie Awards. Kannel began her novel while in the MFA program and finished it about 5 years later with the help and support from her MFA classmates.
