Writer and Antioch University faculty member Andrea Tate ’12 (Santa Barbara, BA) recently shared a deeply personal essay in Newsweek’s My Turn section about her experience parenting her son and how a single car ride reshaped their expectations around childhood aspirations and success. In the piece, “I Wanted My Son To Be a Child Star—One Car Ride Changed Everything,” Tate reflects on the pressures families place on children and the unexpected ways life can lead to growth and fulfillment beyond conventional dreams like stardom.
