Honor Recognizes AUSB’s Support of Community College Transfer Students
(PTK), the honor society that recognizes and encourages scholarship among two-year college students, has named AUSB to the 2019 Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll.
The list identifies the top four-year colleges and universities that create dynamic pathways to support transfer students. AUSB is one of 78 colleges across the country awarded the distinguished honor.
“We pride ourselves on our ongoing commitment to making college tuition as accessible and affordable as possible by creating pathways for traditional and adult learner students to complete their education and advance their careers,” said Dawn Murray, PhD, Undergraduate Program Chair. “We are honored to be recognized for these efforts by Phi Theta Kappa.”
AUSB collaborated with Santa Barbara City College to offer a 3 + 1 agreement. This partnership allows students the opportunity to study for three years at Santa Barbara City College and then one year at AUSB. It can save students up to $7,000 on completing their bachelor’s degree and ensures a seamless transfer of most of the student’s credits.
Additionally, AUSB offers a two-year scholarship of $6,000 to five Phi Theta Kappa students per year.
“The Transfer Honor Roll reflects the growing importance of recognizing and responding to the needs of transfer students,” said Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “We know community college transfer students perform as well as or better than non-transfer students at four-year colleges. It’s more important than ever before to highlight what these colleges are doing right to promote transfer success and to encourage others to follow suit.”
Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 10 nations.
