APA award.
Sarah Gates, PsyD ’09, has won the American Psychological Association (APA), division twenty-nine (psychotherapy), student paper award for her APA poster presentation based on her Antioch University New England PsyD dissertation.
The presentation, authored by Sarah and Kathi Borden, PhD, is titled The Relationship Between Supervisor Leadership Qualities and Home-Based Clinician Burnout. Sarah made the presentation at the APA’s annual meeting in Toronto, Canada on Saturday, August 8. While in Toronto, Sarah was also honored at an awards ceremony and reception.
Sarah was the 2009 recipient of the ANE Gene Pekarik Memorial Award for Research on Psychological Practice. Dr. Pekarik was known here at ANE for his seminal work on the multifaceted contributors to client attrition and retention in psychotherapy within various naturalistic clinical contexts. Sarah’s innovative research while at ANE turned a mirror on one of the more challenging naturalistic contexts in which mental health services are delivered and asked what ingredients of that context could sustain clinicians.
