Governor’s Environmental Award Going to EFS Alum and Her Sustainable School

The Reading (Vemont) Elementary School will receive one of the 2013 Vermont Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence,  on May 14 at the Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility’s spring conference at the University of Vermont Davis Center.

Patty Collins, MEd ’11, an alumna of the Educating for Sustainability concentration in AUNE’s Department of Education, teaches Reading’s fifth grade, which came up with the award-winning project, “Reading Eco-Goats.” They found a solution to a large patch of poison ivy on school grounds ; goats that graze on the toxic plant.
