Gene Pekarik Award Given to Josefina Irigoyen

The faculty in the Department of Clinical Psychology has given the ninth Gene Pekarik Memorial Award for Research on Psychological Practice to Josefina Irigoyen.

In her dissertation, Josefina compared access and utilization of behavioral health care in an area of Texas with national benchmarks and two high standard-of-care organizations in Massachusetts. The findings suggest that gaps in the continuum of behavioral health care in Texas may be driving higher hospital admission rates and, consequently, higher expenditures for behavioral health care than in the comparison sites.

The late Dr. Gene Pekarik founded AUNE’s Center for Research on Psychological Practice (CROPP).
