Run the farm, eat the cheese, and enjoy a milkshake at the finish line while supporting AUM’s scholarship fund
Yellow Springs, Ohio – If you like to walk, run or enjoy milkshakes, you’re invited to participate in the fourth-annual Cheddar Challenge 5K on Saturday, June 11 at Young’s Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs. The 3.1 mile race winds through rarely-seen off-road sections of the farm’s open pastures, Christmas tree farm and Young’s animal barn. A portion of the proceeds benefit Antioch University Midwest’s (AUM) McGregor Scholarship Fund for adult learners, and everyone will receive a commemorative shirt, finisher’s medal, milkshake sample, cheese samples, race bib, chip timing, free parking and a shuttle to and from the Yellow Springs Street Fair happening the same day.
“We are proud to be the Cheddar Challenge 5K’s charity partner for the 2016 race and wish all the runners the best of luck,” said AUM president Dr. Karen Schuster Webb. “By traversing the beautiful farmland around the dairy, runners are also supporting the education of deserving AUM students through our partnership, which contributes to AUM’s scholarship fund.”
Race organizers are also in need of volunteers to assist with preparing for the 5K and on race day. Volunteers receive a shirt and the same tasty treats as the runners, along with free race entry to a future 5K or a donation to the charity of their choice. The race is open to all ages and runners of all abilities and coincides with the dairy’s family-friendly Farmstead Cheese Festival. Runners/cheese-enthusiasts may sign up as individuals or form a team of four. If registering as a team of four or more, each participant will save $5 off their registration fee.
“While we don’t recommend eating cheese while running, this might be the most delicious 5K in the world,” said Dan Young, CEO of Young’ Jersey Dairy and a member of AUM’s board of trustees. “It’s also a great way to welcome summer and celebrate the strong ties we share throughout our community.”
To sign up to race or volunteer, register at The Cheddar Challenge 5K. Registration is $35 before April 17 and increases incrementally in the weeks leading up to the race. Race-day registration will be available if space permits; the 5K is limited to 1,000 runners.
