Greetings from Student Organizations and Recitation of the Sustainability and Social
Justice Pledge by Chad Czelusniak-Serviss, president, Net Impact Club
Keene, NH (May 14, 2015)–“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again … a wind rose in the Mountains … The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of The Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
I reflect on these words quite often since I first read them, some twenty years ago, in the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordon. I’m reminded of them again as we end of our journey at Antioch University New England. We made it! We are graduating! We are at the end of a long journey. For us it is an ending to a journey we all made.
I’m sure many of you graduating today feel as I do, that this this experience has changed our lives. I am sad to leave such an amazing, inclusive, and inspiring environment and at the same time very thankful to have had this experience. It seems appropriate to take a moment to express my gratitude to those who helped me along this journey. I know that my sentiments are shared by many of my fellow graduates to family and friends in the audience today and on others on this stage.
Faculty and staff at Antioch University New England: You give so much of your time and hearts to help us. I sincerely thank you. Working on campus in Integrated Student Services, Institutional Advancement, the Grants Department, and a bit in Admissions, I have gotten to know so many of you. I am on awe of the faculty and staff in the management department, as you all must be for your respective departments. It feels like family here. From the bottom of my, thank you!!!
To my cohort: You are all amazing individuals. We are lucky to have spent two years together on this journey, learning and growing. I’m sure those of you in other programs and departments will fondly remember your classmates. I thank my cohort from the bottom of my heart. I honor you all. Thank you!!!
Family and friends: The support you gave me when I decided to take this journey is amazing. You walked with me. I could not have done this without you. Words are not enough to express my gratitude. Thank you!!!
For all of us graduating today, times are changing. We are different from when we started this journey. We are stronger now for having had this experience. This marks the end of a chapter and now we must turn the page and start writing again.
To celebrate Antioch’s mission and how it has inspired us, now and and into the future, please join me in reading the Sustainability and Social Justice Pledge, found in the back of your program.
The Sustainability and Social Justice Pledge: I pledge to explore and do my best to take into account the social and environmental consequences of activities I practice and will strive to improve these aspects of my personal life, and of any communities, ecosystems, and organizations with which I participate.
