Ceremony Will Honor Wangari Maathai April 19 at AUNE

A commemoration for Dr. Wangari Maathai will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Friday, April 19, at the apple tree planted behind AUNE in her honor in 2011. Dr. Maathai was a Nobel Peace Prize winner and environmental and social justice activist who died in September 2010.

Jim Gruber, core faculty in the Department of Environmental Studies, will post a sign. There will be readings by students, a short video tribute to Dr. Mathaai, refreshments, and reflections to end the event. Feel free to bake, buy, or whip together an apple snack for refreshments for this apple-themed event.

The commemoration, hosted by the Center for Tropical Ecology and Conservation (CTEC), is part of the Monadnock Earth Day Festival.
