Beth Kaplin has been named June 2010 professor of the month by the Network of Conservation Educators and Practitioners (NCEP), a global initiative of the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation of the American Museum of Natural History.
For the past several years, Beth has collaborated with the group on the development of teaching modules for biodiversity conservation. Her grad students were among the first to test and review materials, providing integral feedback for the project. Beth also was instrumental in facilitating the group’s work in Rwanda, where she is a technical advisor for the Conservation Biology Education Project of the National University of Rwanda. The program’s goal is to restructure curriculum and implement a graduate degree program in conservation science. She and NCEP are now developing a team of Rwandan instructors to adapt NCEP modules for the Albertine Rift.
