Beth Kaplin, professor in the Department of Environmental Studies and director of AUNE’s Center for Tropical Ecology and Conservation, was a keynote speaker at the annual conference of the Society for Tropical Ecology, February 22-25, in Erlangen, Germany.
The focus of the international conference was Islands in Land- and Seascape: the Challenges of Fragmentation. The title of Kaplin’s talk was “The Importance of Buffer Zones in Mediating Edge Effects on Ecological Processes in Forest Islands Surrounded by a Sea of Agriculture.”
