AUNE’s Campus Compact for New Hampshire Winners Announced

Stephen Jones, president of Antioch University New England (AUNE), has announced the recipients of the 2014 Presidents’ Campus Compact awards. They are:

  • Presidents’ Leadership Award: Nicole (Nikki) Sauber, master’s student in the Advocacy for Social Justice and Sustainability concentration in AUNE’s Department of Environmental Studies.

  • Presidents’ Good Steward Award: Krishni Pahl, administrative assistant in AUNE’s Department of Education.

  • Presidents’ Community Partner Award: C&S Wholesale Grocers, the largest wholesale grocery supply company in the United States, based in Keene, New Hampshire.

The Presidents’ Leadership Award is given to a student or student organization that has made outstanding contributions to community service, service learning, and/or civic engagement efforts on campus.

Nikki Sauber has been an active leader at AUNE as a representative in Student Government and Student Alliance, leading the Student Alliance’s efforts with Keene’s 2013 Earth Week. She served in the local Nuke-Free Monadnock group and the AUNE Organizing for Social Change class service project focusing on the closing of Vermont Yankee. She also contributes to the Keene community through her internship, helping Transition Keene start a local time bank, and through her community service initiative, helping the Monadnock Sustainability Network start a cooperative solar initiative.

The Presidents’ Good Steward Award honors an AUNE faculty, administration, or staff member who has contributed professional expertise to serve the wider community and who has significantly advanced public service on the campus.

Krishni Pahl has been instrumental in AUNE’s participation in the Perpetual Food Pledge. With the help of her daughter, Angie, she weighs, loads, and delivers the monthly food contribution from AUNE to the Keene Community Kitchen. Since 2012, she has collected more than 1,400 pounds of food.

Krishni took the lead in the recent restructuring of the campus ReUse and Recycling Room, and serves on the Staff Senate and the Campus Spruce Up Committee. She worked in the Institutional Advancement and Academic Affairs office before moving to the Education department.

The Presidents’ Community Partner Award is given to an organization that has partnered with AUNE to improve the quality of life in the community.

C&S Wholesale Grocers sponsors the C&S Workplace Organic Gardens Graduate Fellowship, a unique partnership between a family-owned business and a higher education institution. It provides practical application of scholarly knowledge, and opportunities to inform best practices in workplace gardening initiatives nationwide. The fellowship supports expansion of the C&S workplace organic gardening model, implements garden-based educational outreach at C&S workplaces, and facilitates scholarly research.

The Campus Compact awards will be presented at the Campus Compact for New Hampshire‘s (CCNH) annual Presidents’ Awards luncheon on April 8 in Bedford, New Hampshire. CCNH is a statewide consortium of college and university presidents and private sector partners who are united in their commitment to the civic purposes of higher education.
