Antioch University Seattle Announces New Provost

Oct. 28, 2014–Seattle – Antioch University Seattle (AUS) has named Dan Hocoy, PhD, as Provost/Chief Operating Officer. Dr. Hocoy, a clinical psychologist, educator and higher education administrator, will begin at AUS December 1, 2014.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Hocoy join the Antioch University team in Seattle and I’m very much looking forward to working closely with him,” said AUS President Dr. Brian Baird. “As a scholar, teacher, and academic, he is a perfect fit for AUS; as a person, he exemplifies our mission and vision as an engaged and socially responsible global citizen.”

Dr. Hocoy joins AUS from Saybrook University in San Francisco, where he has served as Associate Provost since 2010. Prior to that, he worked at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, California, as Director of Institutional Evaluations and Accreditation, Accreditation Liaison Officer, Director of International Programs and Diversity, and Chairman of the Faculty of Color Caucus.

Dr. Hocoy completed his PhD and Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Toronto and has completed Management and Leadership in Education (MLE) from Harvard University. In addition, he serves on the International Board of Advisors on Cultural Diversity, and has earned numerous academic awards and grants.

“Having devoted my life to social transformation and progressive movements, I feel a deep alignment with the mission and history of Antioch University,” he said. I truly believe that universities like AUS are critical in the development of creative thought leaders who are ethical global citizens and agents of social transformation, and who contribute to socially and environmentally responsible communities.”

As Provost at AUS, Dr. Hocoy will promote, lead and manage all educational programs and activities for the campus, as well as administering all campus academic programs and faculty relations. He will also serve as campus Academic Liaison Officer to the Washington Student Achievement Council and other accrediting and regulatory groups.
