Antioch University Listed in USA Today Top 20 Colleges Committed to Community Service

Antioch University has been ranked by USA Today as one of the top 20 colleges in the United States most committed to community service.

Antioch Seattle’s Women’s Education Program was specifically mentioned as an example of the community work which has always been an important focus of Antioch’s vision of social justice and commitment to community collaboration.

The Women’s Education Program serves homeless and formerly homeless women in downtown Seattle, providing homeless women with a clean, warm and welcoming place to visit for an educational day program and offer a way for the University to contribute to the community.

Bringing Unique Perspectives to Counseling

When MaiLinh Hartz, a master’s student in the Couple and Family Therapy program, was younger, people often said she had an old soul. “I was very introspective and had time to listen and absorb people’s stories and emotions,” she explains. It’s a common narrative heard among people who work in the mental health field that they were always, in some way, drawn to care. As a student, she is expanding what it means to take care of others—not just as a therapist, but as a peer.
