State Sen. Paull Shin (D-Edmonds) is keynote speaker for the fifth annual Horace Mann Awards from 5:30 to 8 p.m., March 27. The dinner event, a benefit for the Antioch University Seattle Scholarship Endowment, will be at Seattle Center’s McCaw Hall.
Those to be honored with prestigious Horace Mann Awards for their victories for humanity are:
Tracy Rector, executive director of the award-winning Longhouse Media/Native Lens program, which introduces Native American youth to the art of writing and filmmaking
Larry Hobbs, an Antioch alumnus who has reached more than 15,000 adult learners in pursuit of a systemic approach to sustainable life on the planet
Christie Kaaland, an Antioch educator who devotes her energies to Washington’s school libraries and those who staff them
Candiss Eickelmann, an Antioch staffer whose volunteer efforts with the Women’s Education Project for homeless and formerly homeless women are key to its success
